Finding the Answer Through Dancing Around the World
When I was a teen, even though I had food, shelter, and everything I needed, I felt something was missing and carried an unease about the future.
I asked myself: Why do I dance? Why does dance exist?
To find the answer, I traveled to over 20 countries, dancing with more than 100 people of different nationalities.
Even without speaking the same language, music and dance allowed us to connect and share emotions.

One of the most unforgettable experiences was my homestay in Soweto.
The community had endured apartheid, and many children lived in poverty. Some were even at risk of falling into drugs or gangs.
Yet, music and dance provided hope. Local organizations taught kids to use their energy creatively—to express themselves, dream, and gain confidence through rhythm. If the young people had dance, they had hope; if they had hope, the stayed away from addictions and despair.
Witnessing this, I realized that dance isn’t just an art—it’s a lifeline.
During my journey dancing around the world, I met Kim who had opened a dance space for teens in Canada. She inspired me with her sense of optimism and purpose in creating a sense of belonging for teens through dance.
She introduced me to Josh, a Canadian dancer. At first, we barely spoke — my English was limited, and he was quiet too. But when we danced together, I felt an instant recognition, as if we were carrying the same questions and the same weight inside.

Josh’s choreography was unlike anything I had seen. Every move had meaning, drawn from his own struggles and emotions. Through him, I realized that dance could be more than rhythm or style — it could be a way to confront pain, to resist inequality, and to express the truths that words often fail to hold.
Meeting Josh changed me. It reminded me that dance is not only about steps or stages, but about survival, connection, and the freedom to be fully human. That encounter continues to guide why I dance, and why I teach.
Together with Kim, we created powerful dance pieces and workshops that promoted empathy, expression, and hope. We spoke out against bullying and actively worked to give kids a sense of belonging through dance, art, and poetry.

5 Years Running a Studio in Metchosin
I moved to Canada, and opened a dance studio in Metchosin for five years.

I focused on creating a space where every student could feel supported and confident to explore dance at their own pace.

Although I had to close the studio during Covid, I always dreamed of reopening.
Now, in Langford, I’ve made that dream a reality.
